Checking in for a checkup

Posted on Mon Jul 22nd, 2019 @ 3:45am by Lieutenant Commander William Gunnison & Lieutenant Commander Calvin Morgan

Mission: War and Peacekeeping
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Before the post "And so it begins..."

Will Gunnison headed into Sickbay. He hadn't gotten his first physical in yet, and knew he'd better do so that Dr. Morgan wouldn't send security to drag him in to Sickbay for it.

"Dr. Morgan?" Will said. "Hi, I'm Will Gunnsion, the chief of operations. I'm here for my physical, and I do apologize profuse for not getting in here to see you sooner."

Calvin perked up from the console he was working at the see the new person in his domain. "Fantastic, and no need to apologize, I didn't have to hunt you down so you're doing better than most," He gave him a smile, walking over to bio bed with his new patient. "Have a seat."

Will took the offered seat. "For what it's worth, physically I feel fine, though at the same time I know you'll want to be the judge of that. I've known a few doctors over the years who do appreciate it when the rest of us avoid trying to make any sort of self-diagnosis. Of course, if there's anything you'd like to ask about in particular besides the standard coming-on-board physical in regards to my health, please don't hesitate to ask."

Calvin had a laugh at the statement. "Oh but you know your body better than me. Your opinion is quite important, but yes I usually prefer not to be told my job," He smiled as he got out a medical tricorder. "Any changes since your last physical? Pains, aches, symptoms, problems?" He asked as he prepped himself.

"Well, I take a look at my son and do feel old at times," Will said. "Other than that, I don't have anything worth noting."

Calvin smiled, "That's an easy fix, don't look at your son anymore." He set the activated PaDD down on the table next to the bio bed, and pulled the probe from the medical tricorder. "Easy head to toe, some poking and prodding, some scanning. As long as no red flags, I'll have you out in a jiffy." He started up at the head, using a mixture of palpation and scanning and began his process, a well rehearsed and oil dance of his fingers and the scanning probe, explaining what he was doing as he slowly worked down Will's body.

Will listened and nodded as appropriate. So far, Dr. Morgan looked to be keeping things easy and with the intent of finishing up as quickly as reasonably possible, barring anything unexpected showing up. His mood was...well, it seemed to Will that the doctor was aiming to project a mood of contentment, not something Will had seen in most other doctors he'd encountered, at least not at that level.

Finishing up with his extremities, he tapped a couple buttons on the tricorder before replacing the probe and closing it. "Just have to let the console finish it's diagnostics routine and you should be out of here in a jiffy. You seem to have all your body parts so we are off to a good start," He said with a smile as he walked away from the bio bed to the console to review the results of the scans.

"Well, it's good to know I'm still here, at least physically," Will said. "I've known some people who always have wondered about the safety of the transporters."

Calvin chuckled. "There aren't too many documented cases of transporter failures in the past few years that I know of, so I wouldn't worry too much about that scenario." He glanced down at the console and skimmed the numbers. "Well everything seems to check out. Your cholesterol is a touch high but within normal range. I'll send you a message with some dietary suggestions to follow if you don't do them already. It'll take some time for me to go through everything but I'll do that on my time. You have any questions or concerns?"

"Not at this time," Will said. "Thanks for making it quick, Doctor. If you need to get back to me on any of the stuff you're going over, don't hesitate to holler."
