An Unfortunate Betrayal

Mission: Into The Delta Triangle
Location: Kessik III

Getting into the refinery wasn't difficult. A flash of her ID card and Meessaya Traa started her shift as a safety supervisor. Meka could have laughed at the ease of everything. The satchel over her shoulder contained a data PaDD full of fiction novels, a water bottle, and a lunch box filled with commbadges and phasers. Not that anyone would question her. She had run this routine several times already and it seemed Meessaya's role was just senior enough that everyone left her alone.

Heading for the nearest lift shaft, Meka stepped in and made her way down to level two, walking through the refinery to the central core.

Lavrios watched her from the cameras in the control room and smiled as he did. The girl was in and was on her way to their rendezvous point. Already, he'd initiated the insertion of the false recording data showing the five Starfleeters getting into the mine all undercover-like, posing as a mining crew that just showed on the planet looking for work. He swivelled his chair and waved to his 'supervisor', "Taryal, I need to take a dump, cover me?" He got a wave from the person as was normal when he made his excuses and left the control room to get to the meeting point.

Meka walked into the central core, completely unnoticed, and walked across to the nearest console, accessing one of the consoles and studying the display. Change of shift was complete, they were now on skeleton staff. She wasn't entirely unreasonable, there would be loss of life, but doing it on the graveyard shift would mean that the casualties would be minimal.

As Lavrios walked in, she looked up from the console and gave a slight nod of acknowledgement before looking back at the screen again.

He began to whistle as he passed by her, the tune to an ancient movie called 'The Great Escape.' The warning that he was going to get out of there before she set off the explosive. It was supposed to be an hour before that happened and he wanted to clean out his locker from a couple of special items he'd brought in there.

Meka shook her head slightly and gave a nod toward the other side of the room where there were two others working diligently. Instead, she silently stepped away from her console. "Riastro, I think I have a faulty sensor in sector three, I'm going to go take a look at it."

Lavrios heard Meka enter the locker room behind him, but didn't bother to turn around, noting the step being far too light to be one of his male companions, "Took you long enough. Is it set yet? I'm going to be out of here in just a couple minutes."

Meka shook her head. "You're gonna have to come back to the control room with me. Caplain needs us within a few feet or he won't be able to transport us out because of interference from the dilithium. Grab what you need and come back up with me, we'll set the trilithium charge and get it over and done with."

"New escape plan?" He asked, shrugging and grabbing the small duffel bag he had ready for the trip, "All right, let's go. By this time in a week, we'll be sipping martinis and living the good life."

She laughed in response, though her laugh was slightly hollow. "Come on, the sooner we get this done the sooner we can get out of here." Holding the door opened, she stepped aside for him to walk through before falling into step beside him. "Internal sensors are already disabled in the core. Once we're back I'm going to use the phaser to shoot the few staff in the core and set the commbadges on their bodies. We'll set the trilithium near the core and I'll overload the phasers, then we get the hell out, got it?"

"And what about me? Am I just supposed to sit off to the side and be a spectator?" He reached into his bag and rummaged, "I've got a phaser in here too if you'd like some help."

"You need to set the trilithium, then we'll both overload the phasers." Meka shook her head slightly. "Damn it, don't you start now, just shut up and do your damn job."

Lavrios sighed and nodded, "Fine, fine, just don't let them hit the alarm." He stopped fishing in his bag and stepped off to the side, "After you." He gestured.

Meka stepped through the door, turning back straight away to face him. "Grab your phaser, stun the two on your side," she murmured under her breath, reaching back under her jacket to pull the phaser from her back. Her thumb moved along the side of the phaser, adjusting the settings and releasing the safety before she fired quickly twice, the first two falling soundlessly to the ground.

He drew his own weapon and shot the others just as quickly, just a heartbeat after her, then strode quickly over and checked the panel to make sure they didn't hit anything that could give them away, "It's clear over here. Let me get the trilithium set up. Commbadges?" He asked, leaving his back to her.

Moving quietly around the room and set the commbages on each of the four bodies before she turned toward Lavrios, her phaser drawn and levelled on him. "I'm sorry my friend, I need a fifth body, and you're it."

He spun around, eyes wide, knowing he couldn't reach his phaser on the table in time, but he held up his other hand, "No, you, you can't. If I drop this, it'll explode and you'll go up with it!" He bluffed, terror filling his mind. HE was the one who was supposed to betray Meka, not the other way around.

There was a moment of regret filled silence before the sound of the phaser broke through and his body fell lifelessly to the ground. Walking across, she knelt down next to him, closing his eyes with her fingertips before brushing a kiss across his lips. "I really am sorry," she said softly before pressing the commbadge onto his chest.

With a heavy breath she stood up and established the phasers, setting them to overload before accessing her own comms device. "Caspian, get me out of here."
