The Routine Physical

Mission:
Getting To Know You
Location: Primary Sickbay
Alexis didn't even pause as she approached the main doors to sickbay. After the Rhea Event, she'd been poked and prodded at least a dozen times before she'd even been cleared for further duty so there was nothing a doctor could do to her that she couldn't handle. Of course, all of the injuries and scars from that mission had been erased at her request. If she could have scrubbed the memories from her mind, she would have done that too, but she couldn't. In fact, she didn't even know if this doctor would bring up past injuries, could be interesting to find out.
She did take a deep breath before getting into the spot where the sensors saw her and triggered the doors, then released it as her heels clicked on the floor into sickbay and she put on a smile. She was in her uniform, with the regulation skirt and leggings, but the inch and a half heels she wore were usually frowned upon by some of the others. She glanced around, looking for the highest ranked officer and spotted the two pips of a Lieutenant and made a beeline for him, "Pardon me, I'm looking for Lieutenant Morgan. Might you be he?"
The officer turned and pointed towards the office, which Calvin emerged from. Teal undershirt pushed up past his elbows and uniform pants on, he looked around the room for the new face as he heard the main doors open and close. Upon spotting it he smiled and walked over. "How may I help you?" He asked pleasantly.
Alexis grinned at him, meeting him partway, "I'm the new girl on board and as the Chief of Science, I kinda sorta need that 'wonderful' physical examination as a part of getting here." She shrugged, then slid a PADD out of her belt, "If it helps, I brought my med file with me so you don't have to go hunt it down?"
Taking the PaDD he smiled, "Well New Girl, nice to meet you. You can call me Calvin, or Doc, I don't care for rank," He motioned towards a bio bed. "Normally people come here kicking and screaming, to show up with files ready is quite remarkable. Take a seat and get comfortable. Any new pains, symptoms, problems, changes?" He asked as he got to the console and began starting up the bio bed before he read her files.
Alexis smirked slightly, stepping up on her toes in order to settle her behind on the biobed, "Well, Calvin, aside from having to get used to a new bed to sleep in and fearing the unsightly inevitability of having wrinkles around my eyes in about a decade? Nothing that I can tell. And feel free to call me Alexis, even Lexi, I'm not all that formal myself unless the shit really hits the fan. But I've rarely had a problem with seeing doctors, they always know where to find you in the end, so they tend to win at hide and seek." She giggled.
Calvin gave her a wink, "Right you are Lexi," he replied walking around the console starting to read the PaDD. He had gotten the bio bed to start the initial scans. He slowed a little reading her history, obviously taking more than a cursory look at it. "New beds are always one of the worst parts of a transfer if I have to say so myself," He piped up turning the PaDD off and pulling a medical tricorder out. "As well as wrinkles, I think they are absolutely charming." He opened the medical tricorder and tapped away at it to get it ready.
"Obviously, Doc, you are not a girl!" Lexi laughed, "No girl will ever admit that wrinkles are anything but a blemish on themselves, unless, of course, they're getting oooooold." She winked at him, "But obviously you like what you like, just don't expect them on me! At least, don't expect them to be visible on me."
He began doing his assessment, tricorder and probe in hand at the head, explaining the different things he was doing in a friendly but robotic way. Sometimes he would put them down to palpate different areas, and all the while tapping away at the PaDD from time to time. After getting through the head and chest he slowed a little, looking up from his work for a moment. "You had a good doctor, bordering on artist."
"A couple of them." Alexis agreed solemnly, remembering the months she'd spent in the hospital back on Earth recovering from that one trip on the Rhea, "One of those ribs was in six different pieces and partially healed by the time they got to them I'm very, very grateful for the care and detail they gave me.. I wasn't the worst off of my crewmates, but I wasn't in very good shape."
He nodded, acknowledging both the pain she must have gone through as well as the artwork his fellow doctors performed. Picking back up to his normal pace, he continued his assessment on her, both by palpation and medical tricorder. His hands moved gracefully, with explanation before movement each time. It was a well orchestrated dance for him at this point. In between explanations he piped up, "Does any of it still bother you? Any residual pain?"
Alexis smiled at him as she shook her head slowly, "No pain, aside from the odd nightmare here and there, but that's par for the course, in fact, better than average. Some of my fellows were medically retired, three of them." She shrugged, "You know, you're really good at this, I know I'm learning more about what mysteries you doctors perform than I knew before."
He smiled and gave a wink, "Don't learn too much or you might realize I'm a fraud." He finished up his assessment and closed up the tricorder. He set it aside and put some final notes in the PaDD before he forgot them. He looked up and gave her a smile. "Well your physical looks all set. Happy to answer any questions you may have, and if not, you're free to leave the lair that is called Sickbay."
“With the way you were explaining things as you went along, I’m afraid you already answered any questions I might have had already.” Lexi raised an eyebrow, “It really isn’t something I’ve seen from other docs. I think your way works better.”
"Unlike most docs, I didn't start as one. Glad to know I haven't lost my touch. Well if you come up with any questions don't hesitate to ask," He said with a smile. "And if you ever need anything for the hidden scars we carry," He said, tapping his chest, "Don't ever hesitate to knock on my door. I'm always around."
The blood froze in Alexis's veins for a heartbeat and she barely repressed a shudder, one shoulder twitching briefly, but she kept the smile on her face somehow, "Absolutely, Calvin. And if you ever need anything from the sciences? You know where to find me. After all, you've got access to everyone's quarters, don't you?"
Calvin noticed but didn't acknowledge, knowing the hidden pains that can be carried on the inside. He would make a note of it to keep an eye on, smiling back. "I promise I'll be polite and knock before I walk in. Maybe even bring something to drink," he replied in jest.
"If it's strong enough, I'll let you in, even." She chuckled lightly, "Well, most likely. Just don't use your other-worldly doctor powers to walk in while I'm in the shower, okay?"
Calvin feigned shock and hurt as they walked to the doors of sickbay. "Come in unannounced and unwelcome like that, what kind of doctor do you think I am?" He gave a wink. "You name the proof, I'll show up with it."
"Surprise me." Lexi winked back at him, "It's been a pleasure." She reached out with a hand.
Calvin shook her hand. "You got it," he responded simply, parting ways with her.
