The Effects of Stress

Mission:
Getting To Know You
Location: Sickbay
Aurelia cast an appreciative smile at the Marine who had escorted her to sickbay and offered her thanks before she stepped through the doors and cast a glance around. The Marine, off the top of her head Aurelia couldn't remember the name, had told her to speak directly to Lietenant Morgan... or was it Lieutenant Calvin? She sighed, frustrated at her own inability to remember. Clearly stress was not doing any of the Trion's any favours.
"Can I help you?"
Aurelia glanced at the young man in teal, and offered a faint smile. "I need to speak with... Uh... Lieutenant Calvin? Or Lieutenant Morgan? I'm so sorry, I can't quite remember the name?"
The young man supressed a smile. "You mean Lieutenant Calvin Morgan?" he offered helpfully.
Aurelia felt the colour filling her face. "Well, that would be who I need to see," she said with a wry smile. "I'm happy to wait. Shall I just take a seat?"
The young man nodded again. "I'll let him know you're here, he shouldn't be too long."
"You can call me Calvin," He stated coming around the corner, a couple PaDDs in one hand, the other free. "Formalities are not needed in my sickbay. How may I help you?" He asked coming up to a social distance of the nurse who had met with the newcomer and the young woman who had entered his sickbay. His eyes darted up and down her quick, the medical thought process already starting to build a general impression automatically of his potential new patient.
With a genial smile, Aurelia bowed her head slightly. "Calvin," she said politely. "Thank you for taking time to see me, I know I don't have an appointment so I appreciate your indulging my intrusion. I was wondering if I may have a moment of your time, I..." her words faltered as she contemplated how best to phrase what she wanted to say. "I need to seek advice, on behalf of another party." She glanced around quickly, almost as if she were checking to see who may be listening. "They don't know I'm here, but I have concerns, and I would like your advice, if I may?"
Calvin's right brow raised for a moment with intrigue before his inquisitive face was replaced with a gentle smile. "I'd be happy to indulge the intrusion. Health matters rarely operate on a schedule that benefits us I've noticed in my years of work." He stepped next to her and turned, guiding gently with one hand while the other motioned towards a door. "Let us sit down to talk, it'll be quieter in my office.
After they stepped into his office he closed the door to preclude an eavesdropper, hoping to make whatever uncomfortable matter for her easier to talk out. "Before we begin though," He stated, going around to his side of his desk, "You have me at a disadvantage, who may you be?"
"My apologies Lieutenant, how terribly rude of me," She cast a genuinely apologetic smile at him as she took a seat. "Aurelia Gatrell," she said, leaning forward and holding out her hand. "Personal Assistant to the Governor of Trion 8."
"No apologies needed," He responded taking her hand in his in a warm handshake. "It's obvious that there is much tension and stress going on right now. Would the other party you are here on behalf of be the Governor?" He asked, leaning back into his chair.
"It would," Aurelia replied with a soft nod. "He was treated while we were on Starbase 357 for 'stress related health issues' that were likely exacerbated by everything that has been going on..." her voice trailed off and she looked across at him. "I'm concerned about his health, but it just seems different. I don't know, I'm definitely not a medical expert, but he's almost like sometimes he's just not really there?"
"Mm," Calvin nodded, absorbing the information. "I would be interested to see what Starbase 357 had to say about it. I'll see if I can get the records." His mind was hopping from thought to thought, and it took him a moment to begin again. "Different how? Changes in sleep patterns, eating habits?"
"He rarely sleeps," Aurelia replied. "He is constantly tense and frustrated, but he has these moments where he... well, I guess it's like he goes blank, and then when he snaps out of it he's angry." She shook her head slightly. "I'm quite sure his blood pressure is far too high, I know that they had told him that on Starbase. I can see his veins throbbing when he's cross."
"Well his job isn't particularly stress free, and I am sure the current situation does not help," He pondered the symptoms provided as he typed into his terminal, able to get the files discreetly from the Starbase visit. He skimmed them quickly. "Would he be willing to see the doctor? Or is he adverse to my kind?"
Aurelia laughed softly. "He's old and stubborn at the best of times, and very set in his ways. He believes he's just fine and it's all our fault, everyone else needs to just stop making him cranky." She shrugged slightly. "I can probably convince him to come, but it would be under duress, he would not be very cooperative and it certainly won't help to decrease his stress levels if I try."
"What if I came with you, and met him on his ground? Any easier?" He asked. He finally looked up from the screen, having finished a quick skim of the file.
"Maybe disguise it as a social call?" Aurelia asked hopefully. "You know, just being nice and friendly and checking in to see if he needs anything? He might tolerate that a little more."
"A social call it is, just let me know when it would be most convenient and you can count on a scheduled impromptu visit. I can do a decent check up without equipment." He leaned forward in his chair and smiled.
"How about tomorrow morning?" Aurelia suggested. "Around mid morning would be good, he's usually dealt with his first round of communications by then so he should be suitably moody for you to see what I'm talking about. He's nothing if not predicatble, he don't leave his quarters until after noon so he has nothing else scheduled that can't be delayed in order to be polite to a guest." She offered a small but grateful smile. "Thank you Lieutenant, I truly appreciate your time."
"You're welcome. Feel free to call me Calvin. I will see you in the morning. If anything concerns you don't hesitate to call and I'll come sooner." He said, standing up. After a friendly shake of the hands he sat back down in his office alone, and began a more detailed study of his new patient's chart.
