Pre-Planning

Mission:
In The Face of Adversity
Location: Captain's Ready Room
By the time Ichiko arrived in her ready room, Abigail already had the tea and ginger snaps ready, along with the schematics of the docking port downloaded to a PaDD to be taken to Engineering. As her First Officer and friend entered, Abigail offered a smile and motioned for her to take a seat on the other side of the desk. "I made contact with the starbase," she spoke as she sank back into her own chair and picked up her mug of chai. "They need our help."
Ichiko took a ginger snap or two along with the tea even before she sat down. Settled into place, she extended her full attention now to Abigail. Not just as a friend, but as this ship's captain. Contact with the starbase, as expected. The rest, however, was new.
"When do we arrive, and what do they need?"
"The starbase has been plagued with some kind of unknown contagion," Abigail started to explain. "They don't know what's caused it or how to treat it. The whole starbase has been isolated to prevent spread, but their death count is already high."
Ichiko gave a nod, "I'll prep a few contagious encounter scenarios for the boarding party then?" she inquired, pausing only to nibble on a ginger snap. "And have they sent over their notes for us to start familiarizing ourselves with the signs and symptoms?"
She smiled and slid the PaDD forward toward the rabbitess. "Everything we have available is here, including schematics for their docking ports, we might need to have engineering make some modifications so we can dock properly... I did contemplate using transporters to see if we could isolate the source that way, but I don't know how well that would work."
Ichiko took the PaDD and began to examine it. "If we do this..." there wasn't a doubt in her voice, but she prefaced it as such, "... then unless we have confidence that we can succeed in deal with the problem anyone that goes across is not coming back until then. Transporters might work for the trip over, but having a shuttle there for additional resources would be optimal. Either a docking clamp or, if they can accommodate it, a landing bay." the rabbitess offered in consult.
"In either case, that shuttle is getting a scrub."
"Maybe have Sickbay prepare some isolation rooms.. just in case... maybe see what protocols we have for dealing with situations like this?" Abigail set her chai down and steepled her fingers under her chin. We should probably consider preparing some basics to send to the starbase, like water. At least until we find the cause of this.... plague... for all we know it's something in their... what did he call it... uh... replimatters?"
Ichiko considered the notion for the moment. "Might want to start our search there once we arrive. If their term for Fabricator is Replimatter, or if Replimatter is what they call the source for their Fabricators.... I'm curious if the infection has compromised that material?" she offered, at this point throwing darts at the proverbial wall.
"Having assured clean supplies to offer would be optimal. Do we know the current population of the starbase?"
"About six hundred," Abigail offered. "With over half of them infected with whatever this is." She shook her head. "If the infection has compromised the material in their replimatters then it is possible their medical supplies are tainted as well."
"As much as I want to be an optimist, I think it'd be in our best interest planning wise to assume that everything we find there of even a vaguely organic nature is compromised. We bring our own supplies, bring our own water, bring our own inert matter for their replicator. Or use a replicator on board the shuttle for anything we need." she confirmed. "Better safe than sick."
"Agreed." Abigail sipped her chai in silence for a moment as she contemplated. "I'll let you see to the arrangements. Make sure everyone is prepared. Have Commander Morgan prepared for the situation and prep anyone going over on the dangers of an unknown situation. We can't risk complacency."
Ichiko nodded, "Consider it done." she offered, to set her friend at ease. "Every precaution. I'll meet with Medical to discuss measures to limit exposure and protocols in case of contamination."
There was another moment before Abigail laughed and shook her head. "Well, I guess we won't be taking a leisurely stroll around the Starbase and enjoying the fascinating architecture," she said as she placed her cup back on the desk. "We do seem to have a knack for finding these situations don't we?"
"I would much prefer to find these situations while the crew is alive to warn us." Ichiko pointed out with a nod. Then a smirk creased her features, "But, you are right. We tend to find trouble."
There was a moment of silence, a glint in her eye and a grin before Abigail responded. "I guess that's what happens when you're a badass."
That brought a pause from the Daughter of Ts'usu, "She... is not an inspirational figure." Ichiko paused for a moment before giving a giggle.
Abigail grinned at her friend. "You're just saying that because it was MY name she said." The commanding officer stuck her tongue out quickly at her friend before standing up and carrying her mug to the replicator. "Call a staff meeting, I want everyone there in twenty minutes."
"By your command, Captain Badass." Ichiko said with an amused smirk.
By the time Abigail turned away from the replicator, the amusement had already returned to her usual expression of fixed concentration as she headed for her desk. "I'll see you there in twenty," she said as she slipped into a chair picking up the PaDD she had been working on previously, once again deep in thought by the time Ichiko quietly exited the room.
