No Sleep for Engineering

Mission: Enforced Intermission
Location: Main Engineering

Abigail had been walking through the ship, her intention had been to go to the lounge for a chai latte, but she found herself enjoying the casual stroll through the ship instead. Even with all the glitches that were happening with the ships systems, the ship still impressed her.

Finding herself outside main Engineering, she stepped through the doors, glancing around quickly before walking across toward the warp core, trying to stay out of the way of anyone who was still working there. As she stopped at the barricade around the warp core, she smiled at the tall Caitian standing next to her, recognizing him as one of the new crew that joined them at 332. "Lieutenant K'Ruuras?" She nodded slightly. "She's impressive isn't she?" she asked with a nod toward the warp core.

C'Tirr looked up from the compilation of system errors that he had been searching through to look at the Newcomer. He first noted the uniform before he realized who had approached his location. He nodded at the inquiry of his person then glanced up at the swirling blue of the antimatter. "Aye Captain, she is other than the escalating system malfunctions. Their starting to affect primary systems now."

Abigail sighed softly, closing her eyes for a moment, hands gripping the barrier around the warp core. "How bad are the primary systems looking?" she asked quietly.

"So far, I have only seen helm affected. Something caused the helm controls to be transferred to cargo bay 2. Lieutenant Commander Rogers and I got it fixed though and I have been monitoring all systems with hourly diagnostics as well as been compiling all of the malfunctions reported." C'Tirr sighed. "I'm trying to locate where the malfunctions had started and what the catalyst was for this progressing cascade of failures."

"I see," Abigail said quietly. "May I take a look with you? I don't pretend to know much about Engineering, but perhaps you could explain some as we go?"

"Aye ma'am but it's very boring work. It would appear that most of the malfunctions are in the replicator systems though they have spread to other non key systems." C'Tirr said as he pointed out the largest collection of data and where and when the issues started to migrate to other systems. "We have tried to anticipate where it's gonna go next but it is always changing, almost like it knows we are trying to stop it." He hit a few keys and showed the Captain where they had tried to put safety protocols in place to protect systems and where the malfunctions would change to other systems that weren't blocked. "My only suggestion would be a ship wide shut down of all systems and quarantine the affected systems but that would only be viable at space dock and not while enroute." He explained. He hoped that he was explaining it where non engineers could understand.

Abigail remained silent for a moment, contemplating on what had been said. "Any non essential systems that are affected can be isolated and quarantined while we're enroute. Maybe if we start shutting them down completely it will prevent this, what ever it is, from spreading, or at least slow it." She paused again. "How likely is it that this is going to start affecting primary systems across the ship?" she asked quietly.

"As I said Ma'am, it has already started affecting the primary systems. I have a constant monitoring program running that will alert me to any new error or malfunction in primary systems." C'Tirr stated as he pulled up the monitoring system that compiled and organized the diagnostic reports. "This way as soon as it happens we can have someone on it quickly and have it fixed before it causes too many issues."

Another nod. "We need to make sure that essential systems such as life support and warp containment remain unaffected. Obviously, if we start losing warp containment we're going to have a much bigger problem than a cup of tea and wonky turbolifts."

"Yeah, big badaboom!" C'Tirr said with a toothy grin. His tail was looping on itself and his whiskers shivered slightly. "You need not fear Captain, I am monitoring all systems at all times personally. Caitians require a minimum of 4 hours of sleep only and I'm use to long hours. My home world has a 27 hour day.

"It is reassuring to know that she's in good hands Lieutenant," Abigail said, patting the console in front of them affectionately. "Is there anything you need from me in the mean time?"

"Not that I can think of." C'Tirr stated as he quickly looked over a new alert. He let out a sigh as he started working, the furred fingers flew across the console as various programs opened and started running. He quickly became engrossed into his work.

Abigail turned her attention to the warp core in front of them and then watched him for a moment longer, a smile on her lips before she nodded slightly. "Good luck Lieutenant," she offered quietly before heading toward the exit.
