Mission:
Enforced Intermission
Location: Main Security Office
Shaille sat at the security console, one foot propped up on the edge of her seat, jacket hanging on the back of her chair as she jabbed at the console again.
"Unable to comply, restricted access, security clearance Alpha Five."
There was a groan of exasperation. "I know," she replied snarkily. "Computer, recognize my voice print. Lieutenant Shaille Levine."
"Voice print recognized."
"Computer, what is my security clearance level." Shaille asked, trying to remain patient.
"Security clearance Alpha Three."
"Right, see, I have clearance, so show me the damn files."
"Unable to comply, restricted access, security clearance Alpha Five."
Shaille groaned and closed her eyes, resting her forehead against her knee. "This is ridiculous!"
"Problem Lieutenant?" Ehal said approaching the security console in the office.
Deja Vu flashed through Shaille's mind as she jumped up from her console, a steady gaze sweeping over the new comer. She raised an eyebrow slightly as her gaze settled on the pips and the gold uniform. "Sorry, and you are?" She winced, realising how that may have sounded. "If you're looking for the security chief, they haven't arrived yet, and the acting is in sickbay. Can I help you with something?"
"Well...." Ehal paused, "...I am your new security chief. Lieutenant Alom Ehal." He set his PADDs down on the desk.
Shaille offered a quick smile. "Well, in that case, I'm doubly glad I didn't say something bad," she said with a nod. "Lieutenant Junior Grade Shaille Levine. Security."
The Bajoran man smiled at the woman, "I am glad too. Wouldn't want to have to apply disciplinary action on one of my staff on my first day." Ehal returned the nod, "Nice to meet you Lieutenant." He looked around the security office, "Could you give me the run down and the tour of the office? It looks pretty straight forward, but every ship has their own little secrets."
With a nod, Shaille locked the console and took a few steps away from him. She turned slowly. "Well, this is it, this is security. Now you've seen it, you can stop by the gift shop on your way out. They have tshirts and candy," she grinned as she looked across at him.
Raising his brow he looked at her, "I will take some candy." Ehal smiled. He guessed he would have to find the secrets himself. "So... do I have my own private office, or do I just use one of these desks?"
Walking across to the large office on one side, Shaille keyed in an access code to enter, however rather than the doors sliding apart gracefully as they always have, this time they remained stoically closed and instead emitted a sound that indicated an error.
With a grimace, Shaille keyed in the code again, only to receive the same response.
"Computer, open the doors to security office one, authorisation Levine Alpha Seven Tango Nine Four Alpha."
"Unable to comply, invalid authorisation."
"Well, I would show you your office, but it seems that the computer hates me today. I don't know what's going on, something's not working right." Shaille said with a shake of her head. "I was trying to run a diagnostic before and it wouldn't let me."
"Really? You talk to Ops or Engineering about it?" The Bajoran sat down at the computer and looked at the computer, "Let's see if they have me transferred yet... Computer, voice print recognition, Lieutenant Alom Ehal."
"Recognized. Lieutenant Alom Ehal, Security and Tactical Chief, USS Astraea."
"Open files that Lieutenant Shaille Levine attempted to open."
"Unable to comply, invalid authorisation."
"What is my clearance level?"
"Security Clearance Alpha 1."
Ehal crinkled his nose. "I should have access...."
"Unable to comply...."
"Oh stop it." Ehal said turning in the chair, "Notify Ops or Engineering that we are having problems with security clearance authorizations. They will look into it."
"Figures," Shaille said with a laugh and a shake of her head. "Well, at least the replicators are still working and we still have coffee, right?"
"Exactly!" The Bajoran Lieutenant exclaimed. "I am going to go look at the weapons locker and see what we have. Let me know when they fix it."
"Of course Sir," Shaille said with a grin. "In the interim, seeing as how I can't work, does that mean I can call it quits for the day?"
Raising an eyebrow, Ehal looked around the office, "Pick-up those PADDs, push in those chairs, and shut down the consoles." He said. Looking at the chrono, "And while you still have a couple hours left to your shift, audit all the phaser lockers on this deck. Send me the report. Finish that and you can go off duty."
"Spoil sport," Shaille retorted with a shake of her head. "I'll head down to Operations first and hand in the report for the system glitches. I would submit it through the computer, but, well, not sure how successful that will be."
"Good idea. Better not risk things getting lost. If you need me, I will be in the weapons locker." The Bajoran said as he started moving towards the door.
Watching him walk away, Shaille shook her head slightly before picking up a PaDD and compiling a list of the glitches to report to Operations.
