Timeline: Day After Grumpy Goat
After transporting in ben stepped forward and thanked the on duty transporter chief. "So Stephanie, was it." Ben started, "Fancy a quick tour of the ship?"
"Sure." Stephanie said, stepping off the pad and shifting her pack on her shoulder. "I never served on an Akira before. I've heard they're a good post to get, though. You can really get situated on one, and where most people see a lot of "average", the good ones see potential. Plus, I could use with some stability, my first and second posts were testbeds..."
"She is a fine ship, but I am sure they all say that" Ben said jovially. "While she isn't a test bed and most of the design kinks have been ironed out of her these days there are the odd niggles here and there." He stated before asking, "So where do you want to go first, Engineering, your quarters, or somewhere else?"
"If we can just stop by my quarters long enough for me to get rid of this thing, we can head to Engineering next." Stephanie replied. "I'd like to see where all the real work gets done."
Ben leads the way out.
A short while later at Main Engineering - Deck 15.
"So welcome to Main Engineering" Ben said looking out at the warp core, "It's usually a bit busier than this he said noticing the skeleton crew making them selves look busy.
"I've been there before. Draw the short straw, get stuck trying to find work while the ship is moored." Stephanie commented, taking in the sights as they walked.
"So, what can you tell me about the ship's personality? Every ship tends to have one, she get temperamental if you do things a certain way? Any odd quirks, that sort of thing?"
"Generally she behaves herself but she does have a tendency to become cross-eyed." Ben replied unintentionally being a little cryptic.
"Cross-eyed? I hope not explosively so." Stephanie asked, "Or is it an issue with processing power?"
"From what we can tell the sensors just drift out of alignment and need more frequent realignment than what the manual says." Ben responds looking around Engineering. "a-ha! So over there is Lieutenant Jeffers, he is the Duty officer for the 3rd watch, keep an eye on him, I don't think I have ever seen him get his hands dirty." He added smirking at the end.
"Oh. I think I read bout that. Plus, the main Engineering instructor I had at the Academy always told me to throw out the book, go with your gut and with the ship." Stephanie replied. She then waved to the duty officer indicated by the Chief, "Lieutenant JG Stephanie McMillan, I'm the new Assistant Chief Engineer."
Ben watches Stephanie go introduce herself to the crew and heads back out, "well those sensors aren't going to align themselves I guess" He mutters to himself.
