Will went over a few last reports in his office that had come up in relations to various things. Soon the door chimed, and Will said, "Enter."
The doors opened to admit Senior Chief Petty Officer Maria Vasquez, the ship's quartermaster. "Here's the reports on the recent supplies and crew rotations, Lieutenant," she said, handing him a padd.
"Hopefully things have gone smoothly on those," Will replied, taking the padd and scanning over the information on it.
"For the most part," Vasquez said. "A couple of last-minute additions to the crew had me racing to make room accommodations, but other than that..."
"Yes, it's always the last-minute stuff that leaves us scrambling, isn't it?" Will said with a bit of a lopsided grin. "I've been stuck dealing with those kinds of situations a time or two as well in my day."
"Indeed," Vasquez said. "But at least it helps to keep things interesting."
"That it does," Will agreed. "So, any plans while we're in orbit of Earth?"
"Well, I was going to poke my head in to that party that the captain apparently has planned for a little bit. Then I was thinking of seeing a few family members and friends I haven't seen in a while. Yourself?"
"Well, like you, there are a few people I haven't seen in a little while that I might stop in and see. I know my son wants to visit some friends and cousins. He's talked with them regularly via subspace communications, but it's not quite the same thing as a face-to-face meeting, of course."
Vasquez nodded. "I seem to remember being that age myself once upon a time. It's not always easy to suddenly have to move away from the only home you've ever known."
"It isn't," Will said. "Well, don't let me keep you. Have fun at the party."
"Oh, I will," she replied with a wink. "I don't get the change to get down and boogy as much as I'd like to sometimes."
