Mission:
Astraea Jollification
Location: Somewhere on the Ship
It hadn't been hard to track down the Operations officer, now all they had to do was hope that he was going to be willing to help. "Well, here goes nothing," Xiara said quietly to Ben.
Ben Nodded and gestured Xiara to continue.
"Lieutenant Gunnison," Xiara called brightly as they approached. "You are just exactly the person we were looking for." She stepped in next to him, grinning easily. "Hi Friend."
"Good day," he said. "This wouldn't be about that overly cheery holiday music that's suddenly taken up playing in the turbolifts, is it? Because I'm already aware of that, and am working on addressing it."
Xiara laughed and shook her head. "No, actually... Did someone really complain about the music?" she asked incredulously. "Wow, what a grinch! We actually wanted to ask you about using a shuttle to power an experiment we're working on."
Ben tried to look innocent, almost like he knew where one of the complaints came from.
A momentary look of confusion crossed Will's face. "Is there something wrong with the Astraea's usual power supply that I just haven't heard about?" he asked, puzzled.
"No, it's..." Xiara sighed and glanced at Ben. "Maybe you can explain it better?" She asked hopefully.
"Ahhh umm..." Ben started a little not quite expecting to have to explain this bit, "We want to run a application isolated from the main ship's grid and computer network, so we ummm thought it would be best to use one of the shuttles." Ben added.
"Yup, that's it," Xiara added with a grin. "It's a small holoprogram that will tie into transporters. Actually, it's a Santa Claus program, if we can get it up and running, maybe you might want to use it for your kid as well, you have a son right?"
"Yes," Will said, "though he is at the point where he doesn't really believe in Santa per se. After all, it's kind of hard to pitch the idea of an actual individual delivering either presents or a particular type of fossil fuel to all the kids in one night on a single class-M planet to begin with, much less explaining how said individual could do that over several thousand light years. How do you plan on transmitting a hologram into areas outside of the holodecks?"
"I've created a small holoemitter, it's a singular dimension, more for effect than interaction," Xiara explained. "I guess it's more like a holo message than an actual interactive holoprogram?"
"Sure, as long as it's not too much, it can be doable. It'll take a bit of setting up, but still..." He flashed them a quick smile.
"Any idea how long it will take to get it set up?" Xiara asked hopefully.
"Hopefully it shouldn't take too long," Will said. "Let me take a look at what you've got so far and I'll see what I can do."
Xiara grinned at Ben. "See, I told you he'd help," she exclaimed cheerfully. "Now this is going to be awesome! I'm excited!"
